Mum: Find bus thug
By Jo Deeks on Thursday, 27th July 2000.
A HORRIFIED mum is asking for help in tracking down a man who she said jumped on to a school bus and swore at and threatened her 10-year-old epileptic son.
Dawn Gamer, of Shetland Road, Haverhill, says son JJ (short for Joshua James), who suffers from fits, arrived home totally traumatised and devastated by the incident.
JJ also suffers from a rare condition which means he has the mental age of a child of only five, as well as having kidney damage and only partial hearing and sight.
He attends the Priory Special School in Bury St Edmunds and it was during his journey home that the incident occurred.
Mrs Garner said: “They stopped at Horrhinger Court School and as a little girl who should get on there did not arrive, the driver and his assistant went to look for her.
“JJ had put his finger up to the children at the back of the bus and this man must have thought it was at him.
“The man got on the bus and started swearing and hurling abuse at JJ and saying he would break his fingers. Then he got in his car and drove off.
“I don’t condone what JJ did and we have reprimanded him for it, but everyone has had kids on buses make signs at them.
“Most people would just poke their tongue out or something.
“It certainly did not justify what this man did and JJ was absolutely devastated by it.
“He has got enough problems to deal with and I just hope this man is
caught, because you don’t know what else he might do.”
A Suffolk County Council spokesman said they were investigating the incident.
