MP welcomes council tax freeze by St Edmundsbury
Monday, 28th March 2011.
Haverhill's MP Matthew Hancock has welcomed the news that all councils across the UK have opted to freeze their council tax.
The freeze will take effect from next week. and Mr Hancock said: “I am delighted that Conservative district councils across Suffolk are freezing council tax from next week, and figures show just how much families will save.
"In St Edmundsbury, council tax rose under Labour by £865. Thanks to the council tax freeze, the average household will save £71 a year.
"In these difficult economic times, every pound makes a difference to families, and so I am pleased that Forest Heath and St Edmundsbury are doing what they can to help.
"This saving, along with the penny off fuel for motorists contained in the Budget, will help people with the cost of living across west Suffolk, and I welcome the news.”
Suffolk County Council's council tax has also been frozen this year, so the only increase Haverhill people will have to pay will for Haverhill Town Council.
