MP's promotion neatly timed for this week's jobs fair
Monday, 7th October 2013.
Haverhill's MP Matthew Hancock, the newly appointed Minister of State for Skills and Enterprise, will be opening a jobs fair he has organised in the town this week.
Ther jobs fair takes place on Friday at Haverhill Arts Centre and will have current and future vacancies, advice on apprenticeships, CV writing, traineeships, job-hunting and changing career.
There will be stands from local businesses such as Jan Cavelle Furniture, Adams Harrison Solicitors, Abbeycroft Leisure and DB Metals as well as recruitment firms like PC Recruit and 1st Stop Recruitment.
Public sector opportunities will also be available in the form of the Army, who are recruiting, and HMP Highpoint.
West Suffolk College and the National Apprenticeship Service will be on hand to discuss apprenticeship opportunities as well as the possibilities offered by traineeships, a new Government supported pre-apprenticeship scheme for people looking to improve their skills and get work experience.
Attendance is free and anyone looking for a job, advice or a change in careers is encouraged to attend.
Mr Hancock said: “As the minister for skills and enterprise I want to help jobseekers from Haverhill find the job or apprenticeship they want and help match them up with local businesses and training providers.
"If you are looking for work, for an apprenticeship or even want to build your skills and get work experience through a traineeship I would encourage you to come to Haverhill Arts Centre on Friday.”
Mr Hancock, a close ally of the chancellor, George Osborne, was minister for skills within the Department for Business, but has now been given a wider brief in today's re-shuffle.
