MP officially opens new DIY store
Thursday, 1st September 2011.
Haverhill's MP Matthew Hancock officially opened the new B&Q store in the town on Saturday.
The new store replaces the Focus store which had faced an uncertain future when that chain went into administration.
However several Focus stores up and down the country were taken over by B&Q and Haverhill's was one of them.
A total of 21 staff from the former Focus store have continued on with B&Q and another 18 have been recruited.
Mr Hancock met them at the opening, which completes a six-week transformation of the store from Focus to B&Q, and entertainment and music was provided for customers at the store.
Mr Hancock said: “I was really pleased to be able to open the new B&Q store in Haverhill. It is great news that B&Q have opened the store in Haverhill just three weeks after the old Focus store closed, and not just for the staff who have kept jobs in the new store.
"It also shows how Haverhill is a town on the up. Talking to the B&Q staff, it is clear how dedicated they are to Haverhill and, like the rest of us, want to see Haverhill keep taking steps forward.”
