MP delighted at refusal of wind turbine plan
Wednesday, 12th February 2014.
Haverhill's MP Matthew Hancock says he is delighted that the application for a 250ft wind turbine at Nosterfield End has been rejected outright by St Edmundsbury Council
Mr Hancock has opposed the application and welcomed the 10-0 decision by the council's development control committee to reject the application last week.
It had been ‘minded for refusal’ at a previous meeting of the committee, but the decision had been deferred until last Thursday.
The decision will now be open to appeal should the applicant wish to do so. In the event that the decision is appealed, Mr Hancock will continue to oppose the development as inappropriate.
Commenting on the decision, he said: “I really welcome this decision by the development control committee and I think the councillors deserve the credit for rejecting this inappropriate application.
"It shows local people on the side of Haverhill and the unanimity of the decision shows the strength of feeling about this.
"I have heard from many local people worried about the impact this might have had on them if it had been approved.
“The Government has been clear that the need for renewable energy does not automatically override local planning concerns.
"I hope that the application will not be appealed, but should it be I will keep fighting on the side of local residents who will feel the impact of a 78m turbine near their homes.”
