MP, Richard Spring, Brings Haverhill Home
Saturday, 24th February 2007.
Haverhill’s MP, Richard Spring, whilst on a recent trip to the United States was pleasantly surprised to discover a 1928 drawing of Haverhill by the German born American painter Oscar Bluemner (1867-1938).
Sadly it was not a depiction of Haverhill in Suffolk, but Haverhill in Massachusetts, USA. The American city of Haverhill is one of the oldest historic communities in the state. It has evolved over the centuries as an industrial centre and now, in common with Haverhill in Suffolk, it has a thriving industrial and technology base.
However, the chance coincidence of finding a drawing of Haverhill, thousands of miles away, compelled Richard to buy it!
Richard said:
“As the local MP, I always notice references to Haverhill. Therefore, when I unexpectedly spotted the Haverhill drawing, I felt a real urge to bring it back with me to England
I intend to have the picture framed – it will hang in my House of Commons office.”
