More parents get the rowdy kids call from police
Monday, 4th April 2011.
Haverhill police reckon their new policy of phoning parents to sort out their children's anti-social behaviour is already beginning to work.
On Friday evening, the first time they had officially been implementing the policy, they dealt with two more youngsters and called up their parents, who were 'very supportive', according to Sgt Sarah Bartley of Haverhill Safer Neighbouyrhood Team.
One youngster was drunk and another was caught in possession of alcohol. Neither set of parents had any idea of what they were up to and were shocked to find out.
"We've tried a lot of ideas over the past few months and this one really does seem to be the only thing that works," said Sgt Bartley.
The police have a specific priority at present of dealing with anti-social behaviour taking place along the railway line and in the lower Chalkstone estate up to Strasbourg Square.
The police have applied for an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) to close a property in Strasbourg Square, which is due to be heard at Bury St Edmunds magistrates court tomorrow, and the house is currently closed to everyone except those regularly living there.
