More affordable housing in the pipeline for town
By Martin Chapman on Tuesday, 27th April 2004.
Borough councillors on the Haverhill Area Working Party group have recommended that
St Edmundsbury Borough Council gives £150,000 towards a housing scheme which would see affordable housing worth £4.4 million being built on the Hales Barn estate in Haverhill.
At a recent meeting of the Haverhill Area Working Party they agreed to ask the St Edmundsbury Cabinet to recommend the grant to ensure the scheme goes ahead allowing the Flagship Housing Group scheme to build 40 new homes. With 37 new homes being built by Jephson Homes Housing Association, meaning more than £8 million will be spent on affordable housing in Haverhill, including £2.79 million from the Housing Corporation.
If the recommendation is accepted it would mean the development on the estate of 77 new affordable homes including 53 rented units, and 10 key worker shared ownership units. The scheme would help the council in one of its core aims of delivering good quality, affordable housing in the borough.
The recommendation is due to be considered by the cabinet at their next meeting on Wednesday, May 5th.
