Moore's the merrier
Thursday, 18th November 1999.
YEAR 10 Samuel Ward Upper School pupil Kirsty Moore has made the final squad for the Suffolk girls under-16 soccer side, and will be involved in the matches against Essex and Norfolk this season.
Two other players, Karli Hammond and Heidi Deane, are hoping to recover from injury so they can join the next training session.
The West Suffolk cross country championships were held last week at Great Cornard, and Samuel Ward took 39 runners, the highest number of athletes they have taken.
They also achieved their best results, with eight pupils qualifying to complete for West Suffolk in the county trial. Notable performances included - junior boys: Paul Grahman (16th), Dayus Rogers (18), Marc Abbott (34) and Sam McNally (36); Jnr Girls Jemma Thake (10); inter-boys Nathan Shea (3); inter-girls Natalie Gilbert (9) and Kirstie Moore (16).
Wednesday afternoon saw the latest game in the challenge series between Year 12 and 13 at football.
With the score one win each, both sides were looking to go ahead.
Paul Robinson put Year 13 ahead (even though they were playing with nine men!) only for Year 12 to equalise one minute from time through Anton Bilinski.
Penalties then followed, but despite Paul Garner from the 13 saving Year 12's first attempt, Year 12 won 5-3.
