Messageboard dropped over 'pathetic' slurs
Thursday, 29th January 2004.
Message boards on the Haverhill-UK website have been suspended and look set to stay off-line in the future.
A message on the site tells visitors that the boards have been suspended because of 'numerous complaints, threats of legal action and personal abuse' regarding messages left on the site.
Jason Fitzpatrick, who set up the website for the town almost five years ago, described the move to take down the boards as "a very sad decision" but said he had no other alternative.
"The original aim of these boards was to help provide a forum for people to discuss issues, share information and ultimately benefit the town," Mr Fitzpatrick said.
"Instead it has become a forum for verbal attacks, which is affecting people's personal lives. I do not want Haverhill-UK to be associated with this, and can only apologise to anyone that has suffered because of the pathetic messages made by certain contributors to the message boards."
Mr Fitzpatrick said he was keen to hear people's views on the issue. They could send comments to jason@haverhill-uk.com
