Men arrested in town with imitation firearm
Friday, 31st August 2012.
Armed police swooped in Haverhill earlier today and arrested two men carrying an imitation firearm.
A member of the public tipped off police that they had seen the men with what appeared to be a gun, and armed response vehicles from Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich were deployed around lunchtime.
When the men left their home they were picked up by the officers at the junction of Dovehouse Road and Wratting Road.
Both were arrested and are in custody, and the weapon was recovered.
Haverhill's senior police officer, Insp Peter Ferrie said he wanted to re-assure townspeople firearms offences were very rare in Haverhill.
But he said if members of the public gave police information of any such offences they were able to act on it quickly and deal with the offenders smoothly and professionally.
