Matthew Hancock MP welcomes latest employment figures in Haverhill

Matthew Hancock MP strongly welcomes this week’s jobs figures which shows that unemployment in Haverhill has decreased by 45 % in the last year and by 35% in West Suffolk.
There are now 142 more people in Haverhill employed than February of last year and at a national level, the employment rate remains at a record high at 74.1% with unemployment at its lowest in nearly a decade at 5.1%. A record 31.42 million people are in work.
Commenting, Matthew said:
“I am delighted unemployment in Haverhill has fallen by 45% since this time last year.
“Unemployment has gone down by 35% overall in West Suffolk and this increase in employment means that more people have the security of a job to provide for themselves and for their families.
“I pay tribute to the dedicated team at the local Job Centre Plus and employers in the area who are feeling the benefits of an improving economy, giving them the confidence to expand and take on new staff. There is still more to do and I will keep working to help everyone who wants one to find a job”.
