Matthew Hancock MP delighted at latest Haverhill employment figures
Wednesday, 21st October 2015.
Matthew Hancock MP expressed his delight at data which shows that unemployment in Haverhill has decreased by 40% over the past year.
Official statistics state that the number of people unemployed in the town fell from 324 in September 2014 to 193 of September this year, with 131 more Haverhill residents in work.
Commenting, Matthew said:
“I'm delighted there is more positive news for Haverhill, with a 40% fall in unemployment in the last year and an 82% per cent drop in people claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance in West Suffolk since 2010.
Having held a Jobs Fair in Haverhill last month, I am pleased to see so many more people getting jobs. But there is still more to do for those still looking for work. As I am always keen to stress, one person unemployed is one person too many and I will continue to help those looking for employment.
More jobs mean that more people, like the 131 in Haverhill, have the security of a job to provide for themselves and for their families. I pay tribute to the dedicated team at Haverhill Job Centre Plus and local employers in the area. It is important to remember that by supporting business, we support job creation and by supporting job creation we support people’s futures”.
