Matt Hancock visits Exning Primary School after fire
Tuesday, 15th September 2015.
Matt Hancock MP visited Exning Primary School on Friday, after a classroom was destroyed in a fire.
The fire was started in the school’s Year One classroom and spread to the main building. Two teenagers have been arrested and the police are treating the matter as suspicious.
Matt visited the school to see the extent of the damage to the school, and to offer his assistance to the headteacher, James Clark.
Speaking after the visit, Matthew said:
“While it was shocking to see the gutted Year One classroom, I was struck by the relentlessly positive and pragmatic approach being taken by James Clark and his staff at Exning Primary School.”
“Although part of the school is now a building site, it was clear that parents and teachers are doing their best to ensure that there is minimal disruption for the pupils. I was especially pleased to hear about the community working together to help the school as term begins, helping to make resources and giving up their time to support the teachers.”
“I will be keeping in touch with the school to make sure I can help with any way I can, and I am very grateful to Mr Clark for taking the time to show me around.”
