Man Jailed For abduction
Thursday, 15th September 2005.
A 43-year-old man has been jailed for nine months after abducting a 15-year-old girl from the Haverhill area.
Police eventually traced the teenager, who was in care, to Maidstone in Kent, four days later, Ipswich Crown Court was told.
Gary Tubby, of Dover Road, Folkestone, admitted child abduction. The girl cannot be identifed for legal reasons.
Defence barrister Marc Brown said Tubby was concerned it would be thought inappropriate sexual behaviour has occurred.
But Judge John Devaux said he had not been charged with that. He was being sentenced for "gross irresponsibility".
The court was told that Tubby had befriended the girl and later assisted her when she absconded from care accommodation.
He also falsely claimed to police he knew nothing of her whereabouts, the court was told.
