Man attacked on Railway Walk by gang of four
Thursday, 6th December 2012.
Police in Haverhill are issuing an appeal for information following an attempted robbery and assault in the town.
The incident happened at around 5.45pm last night, along the Railway Walk opposite the sewage works in Haverhill.
As a 20-year-old man walked along the old railway track towards Tesco supermarket and as he came level with the sewage works he became aware of a group of four men coming out from a wooded area.
The four approached and surrounded him, asking him his name and telling him to give them what he had got. He replied that he had nothing.
At this point he felt a tug on his coat, he turned around and was punched in the face, followed by another punch by one of the other men around his head. After several more punches he fell to the floor and was then kicked.
He managed to get up and run away. Nothing was stolen from him but he received a cut above his eye, which required stitching at hospital and he has a swollen face and bruising.
One of his attackers is described as white, aged 20-22, about 6ft 2in tall and of stocky build, wearing Adidas tracksuit bottoms in charcoal grey with black vertical stripes and a matching hooded top.
A second man is described as of mixed race about 6ft tall, of slim build and aged between 20 and 22. He wore a black puffa-style body warmer which had a white zip and a black long-sleeved top underneath with the hood worn up.
The other two men were white and between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall.
Anyone with information in relation to this incident or recognises the men from the descriptions is asked to call PC Robert Bunton at Haverhill Police 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
