Man Arrested for Doorstep Rape
Tuesday, 27th May 2003.
A 48-year-old man has been arrested by detectives investigating the rape of a woman in Haverhill, just yards from her front door, last October.
The man was arrested on suspicion of rape at his home in Haverhill this morning.
He is currently in custody at Bury St Edmunds police station, where he is being interviewed by police officers.
The 41-year-old victim of the attack, which happened on Sunday October 13, was putting out the rubbish near her home on the Clements Estate when she was grabbed from behind and raped.
She was so traumatised by the attack that she asked to be moved out of her home on the Clements estate.
In May last year a staff member at Burton End Primary School in Haverhill was attacked by a man who tried to rape her, but the two incidents have not been linked by police.
