Make the world of difference to a neighbour this weekend
By Martin Chapman on Friday, 4th March 2005.
Look after your neighbour is the message being issued this weekend.
As temperatures plummet across the country, Suffolk’s Social Services are asking people to keep an eye out on their neighbours.
Classic signs such as milk bottles left on the doorstep and post hanging through the letter box can suggest that an elderly or vulnerable neighbour is in difficulty.
If it snows check to see if neighbours need anything from the shops. More importantly encourage neighbours to use their heating.
If there is any serious concerns over a neighbour Social Services are advising people to contact the emergency services.
Social services also suggest where possible to pop an extra blanket round to a neighbour or cook an extra plate at dinner for them.
The cold weather can make the elderly and vulnerable feel very isolated and popping round even just to say hello and see how they are can ease this sensation.
The main message from social services is that something as simple as saying hello can make the world of difference.
