Lunchtime event brings in chamber members

Tuesday, 27th October 2009.

Haverhill Chamber of Commerce’s first lunchtime networking event for several years took place on Wednesday, October 21, and proved to be a success with new members joining the organisation.

Jacqui Burke, managing director of Flourishing People, based in West Wratting, gave an interesting and informative talk on people issues in business.

The event, held at Castle Manor Business and Training Centre, prompted John Kennedy of electrical contractors JFK Services (UK) Ltd to become a member of the chamber.

He said: “Everyone was very welcoming and it was very informal. The benefits of joining the chamber are endless and, in particular, it is extremely useful to network with other businesses in the town as you never know who you are going to meet and who they may put you in contact with. Particularly in these difficult economic times, every business should come along to a chamber event and see for themselves.”

Sarah Howard, chairman of the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, said: “For several years we have only held meetings in the evening. However, we canvassed our members and in response have re-introduced some lunch time dates.

"Some people find it difficult to attend events in the evening but can take time out to network over a quick lunch. We are also introducing a monthly breakfast meeting starting on November 5 in partnership with MENTA so there should be an event for everyone who wants to meet with other Haverhill-based business people.

“Our next networking event on November 24 will be hosted by St Edmundsbury Council, at which chief executive Geoff Rivers will present a yearly review of developments in Haverhill and those planned for the future.

"This is an annual event which is very popular, giving businesses a chance to ask questions about issues that directly affect them. Geoff will be happy to answer all questions, from the re-development of Queen Street through to future travel plans.

“The event will also offer an opportunity to find out more about the chamber of commerce and the benefits of joining a growing organisation for businesses in Haverhill.”

The next Haverhill Chamber of Commerce networking event is free for members and non-members and takes place on Tuesday, November 24 at Days Inn, Phoenix Road, Haverhill, from 6pm to 9pm.
