Loves sweet music !

By Jo Deeks on Thursday, 18th May 2000.

Drum maestro Michael Jamieson will be sunning himself on the beach in the Dominican Republic on Saturday - but his fellow band members have made sure he still appears in the final of Haverhill Rock Competition.
While Michael,19, and his new bride Lorraine, 20 of Windsor Terrace, Haverhill, enjoy their honeymoon, the remaining members of Oblivion will be taking to the stage at Haverhill Arts Centre.
Stand-in drummer Andrew Dean will actually play the drums but a life-sized cardboard cut-out of Michael will be there to inspire the band to success.
Michael, a mechanic, has been a member of Oblivion for around six months but the band members previously played together in another band for more than a year.
Although three of the band have known each other since they were children, Michael says there was no contest about where he should be on the final night.
"There was no decision to make at all. I was a bit irritated that I could not be there but I have got more important things to do. Andy is a guitarist but he does a bit of drumming and he usually does the sound at our gigs for us, "Michael said.
Lorraine, who tied the knot with Michael on Saturday, was not prepared to sacrifice her honeymoon but says she is right behind the band.
"Isupport him 100 per cent with it. I am starting to drum myself and learning to sing as I hope to join the band. I think they would really like to be famous", Lorraine said.
Fellow band members Sean Taylor, Shane Woodley and Ian Clover said they all knew Michael would be away on the date of the final but were not sure they would get that far.
They won their final place with a massive audience vote at their heat, the biggest ever recorded at the Haverhill Arts Centre.
"We would all like to go all the way with the band but we understood that Michael had to go on his honeymoon.
We throught if we had a cardboard cut-out he would be there with us in spirit", Sean said.
The rock contest final starts at 7.45pm and the other finalists are Oblivious, Skin Walker and Shanghai 75.

A question of loyalty.... Michael Jamieson and his new wife Lorraine are jetting off on honeymoon, while the band, from left, Ian Clover,20, Shane Woodley,19, and Sean Taylor, 27 (and Michael's cardboard cut-out) send the couple their best wishes.
