Lottery couple hit the headlines after admitting marriage break-up
Wednesday, 20th November 2013.
The Haverhill couple who won a £148million lottery jackpot in August 2012 say they are 'happy now' after it was revealed they are on the verge of divorce and living in separate mansions, national newspapers have reported today.
Adrian Bayford, 43, and his wife Gillian, 41, had hoped the EuroMillions win would bring their family together but have separated and will split their fortune after their relationship broke down 'irretrievably'.
Mr Bayford admitted to the Daily Mail they had not been getting on for some time but denied an affair was behind their break-up.
The paper said Mrs Bayford is living in the £6million Georgian home they swapped for their modest three-bedroom house, and Mr Bayford is in a £500,000 property ten minutes down the road in Suffolk.
Mr Bayford told the Mail there had been rumours for months and none of it had been true, it was all rubbish. They had separated now but got on fine.
A spokesman for Mrs Bayford confirmed that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and they had separated.
The Bayfords were famous, not just for winning the huge sum, but also for the way it changed their humble life together.
Mother-of-two Mrs Bayford worked night shifts in the local hospital and Mr Bayford ran a music shop in Queen Street, but closed it down last New Year.
She was involved in reviving the Cheeky Chimps playcentre this year, but that, too, closed down after a few months.
