Looking ahead to Big Apple
By Martin Chapman on Thursday, 21st December 2000.
MATHS master classes on a Saturday morning have been well attended by both Year 9 and 11 students and led to some good progress.
The preparations for the Year 13 trip to New York in February are well under and the students are looking forward to the experience of the Big Apple.
The last day of term was very exciting, the teachers dressed up as punks, many students came in fancy dress and those who did not paid for the privilege of not wearing uniform. The “Stars in their Eyes” production was a great success, with many acts entertaining a most appreciative audience.
This week the Year 11 and Sixth Form football squads have received a brand new football kit from AXA Insurance, who sponsor the FA Cup. The complete set of shorts, socks and shirts are in the school colors of blue and white and will be worn for the first time when both year groups take on Castle Manor and Thurston respectively after Christmas in the County Cup competition.
The U14 and U16 Rugby squads are beginning to take shape in preparation for their fixtures and tournaments in the spring term. Their respective friendlies culminate with the West Suffolk Tournament in March at Bury St Edmunds.
William Pollock (Year 10) retained the British Championship of the British National Martial Arts Association for the 12-14 age group in the final on December 10. William is a first dan black belt in karate and attends the Wado-Ryu freestyle classes held weekly in the Haverhill Sports Centre.
