Librarian hands in her books
Thursday, 16th March 2000.
AFTER two decades running Haverhill's library, Brenda Martin has said goodbye to staff and customers.
Vincent McDonald, area service manager, joined colleagues at the library in presenting gifts to Ms Martin as she moved on after 20 years as library manager. Assistant manager Madeline Tuck will take over until a new manager is appointed.
Mr McDonald said it was appropriate Ms Martin should make a new start in the first year of the new millennium. He had never known Haverhill Library without her in charge, for 10 years at the old building, then another 10 in the new one.
He paid tribute to her dedication and in particular her work with children, which had made Haverhill Library stand out across the county.
Ms Martin is taking up a management post with a furniture company.
