Liam takes on a personal triathlon for charity
Friday, 3rd February 2012.
A Haverhill student takes on a tough personal challenge on Monday on behalf of the charity which works t highlight a condition he suffers from.
Liam Plumridge, 21, from Haverhill, is currently a student with Brighton University in Eastbourne and suffers from dyspraxia.
Liam’s personal challenge on Monday, February 6, in Eastbourne is to complete a 2.1k run, 2.1k cycle and 2.1k swim – his fundraising page can be found at:- http://www.justgiving.com/LiamPlumridge
By donating any money to this challenge, you can support the work of the Dyspraxia Foundation.
Dyspraxia is a ‘hidden’ condition which affects co-ordination, balance, fine motor skills, language, thought and perception. Liam was diagnosed when he was seven, and has become well known both in Haverhill and nationally for his efforts to highlight the condition.
A major milestone in his life in 2007 was when he was seen on BBC2’s ‘Across the Andes – Beyond Boundaries’ programme with nine other disabled people completing an expedition in Ecuador from the Amazon Rainforest across the Andes, ending at the Pacific Coast.
Since the programme, charismatic Liam is full of hopes and dreams for his future – setting up his own voluntary public speaking service, winning awards and meeting politicians.
He has been a Young Ambassador for the Dyspraxia Foundation and is now a Trustee for the Charity (believed to be one of the youngest in the country).
The Dyspraxia Foundation is in desperate need of financial support, and if it does not receive funds soon, may be at risk of closure.
Between February 5-11 Liam – with the support of his Students Union and TJ’s Nightclub in Eastbourne – has organised several events to raise money for the charity.
There is a ‘Superbowl Night’ a ‘Take Me Out’ night followed by a ‘Retro’ disco and a ‘Silent Disco’ – all as part of RAG (Raise & Give) week for students.
The Dyspraxia Foundation has a parent/carer support group in Suffolk which meets monthly in Bury St Edmunds. For more information contact
