Letting agent produces the best Christmas present
Thursday, 16th December 2010.
A Haverhill letting agent came to the rescue of a woman and her little daughter whose housing plight was highlighted in the Daily Mirror last month.
CXG Properties found a home for Kirsty Lipscombe and daughter Rhyley-May, three, in time for Christmas.
The national newspaper highlighted Kirsty's plight as an example of the effects of the Coalition Government's housing benefit changes, which it claimed would affect 130,000 people in Britain.
Kirsty, 20, and Rhyley-May were living in private rented property in Haverhill, but they were given notice to leave when the landlord decided he did not want to rent any longer.
Brothers Robin and Daniel Pilley, who run letting agents CXG, came across the story and decided to help.
Robin said: "We were so touched we pulled out all the stops to find them both a home. Someone had just happened to vacate their property.
"It's really nice to be able to help out and have a happy story in among all the doom and gloom we're seeing at the moment.
"Lots of landlords are withdrawing their properties from the rental market, especially for people on housing benefit.
"Kirsty is just the tip of the iceberg. Councils haven't got enough properties and, as private landlords pull out, where will all these people live?
"Because Kirsty and Rhyley-May have had such a stressful time, we got Santa to deliver the keys and a Christmas present to make it a bit more special."
