Leisure centre staff to play Santa with donated gifts
Monday, 16th December 2013.
Haverhill Leisure Centre staff and customers have collected sackfuls of presents for children spending Christmas in hospital.
Staff from the centre in Ehringshausen Way will play Santa this week and give out presents generously donated by colleagues and customers through their Giving Tree Appeal to children at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
For three weeks, customers and staff have been taking tags from the Giving Tree in the centre’s reception to buy presents for local children in hospital who they have never met.
James Purkiss, manager of Haverhill Leisure Centre, said: “We were utterly thrilled at the number of presents donated for children spending Christmas in hospital. We are still in very difficult times economically in the UK but there is no stopping the generosity of people in Haverhill.
“By adding an extra gift for a child to their shopping list this year they have helped us put a smile on faces of children having a really tough time. We cannot thank people enough for their support and generosity.”
