Lady golfers get the best of the weekend
Wednesday, 6th June 2012.
Haverhill Ladies played their medal competition at Haverhill Golf Club on Saturday, June 2, and some excellent scores were returned. Pat Kennedy just had the edge to win with a round of 85-17-68, trimming her handicap by a shot in the process.
In second place was Karen Wilby with 83-14-69 and in third place was Anna Fairhead with 92-19-73.
On Sunday, June 3, the Help For Heroes fund raising event was held, a stableford competition open to all sections of Haverhill’s golf membership.
The qualifier was played in damp and difficult conditions, with just a few players managing to break par. The overall winner was Andy Fish with 39pts, in second place was Michael Bennett with 38pts and in third Gerry Scott with 37pts on countback.
The top score from the Ladies Section was Heather Eldred with 32pts on countback from Gillian Barke with 32pts and Rebecca Hazel with 31pts.
The top ten men’s scores and top five ladies’ scores will go forward to this year’s Volvo National Golf Club Challenge where the top three clubs in the country are invited to play in a final at Turnberry.
There was a good turnout over the Diamond Jubilee weekend, despite the typically British weather! Funds raised on the day totalled £390, and club captain Steve Ward and lady captain Doreen Darbey thanked everyone for their valued support.
Haverhill Seniors have had mixed results in their friendly matches during last month. On May 11 they were drawn at home against Gosfield where they lost 3-5.
Next they travelled to Bury St Edmunds on May 14, where they lost 2-6. The following day they managed to turn the tables with an away win 5-3 against Heydon Grange.
On May 18 at home against The Suffolk their success continued as they won 5-3, then finally on May 25 at home against Bourn they lost 2-6.
