Kennel raiders steal Yorkies
By Jo Deeks on Thursday, 10th January 2002.
A HEARTBROKEN dog breeder is hoping someone can help get her dogs back, after all 13 were stolen from the kennels over-night.
Rebecca Wass, 64, has been breeding dogs at Steeple Chase, Hundon, for more than 36 years. She was horrified to discover her entire stock of 13 pedigree Yorkshire Terriers, worth around £13,000, has been stolen during last Thursday night.
“I went down there with my bucket of feed at 9 am on Friday morning to find the kennel doors open and all my dogs gone. I was absolutely devastated, I just could not believe it.
“My dogs don’t make a lot of noise. When the police spoke to the neighbours one lady did not even know I breed dogs.
“I am not worried about prosecuting people the people as long as I get my dogs back, that is all I want. They all have names and I can picture every one of their little faces. I am not the sort of person who likes sitting around doing nothing and my dogs keep me busy. They are my life.”
Mrs Wass believes whoever took them knew the layout of the kennels and may have visited her before. She used to have a very effective Rottweiler guard dog, but thinks the younger dog she has now was not quite as alert.
Suffolk police confirmed they were investigating the theft which occurred between 12:30 and 6:30 am on Friday and appealed for any information
The animals taken included 1- bitches, one of them pregnant, and three dogs. They are brown and black, stand 122 to 13 inches tall and range from 12 months to five years of age.
Anyone with information should contact PC Wayne Naylor at Haverhill Police Station on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
