Juniors edge out lady golfers in close contest

On Tuesday, October 30, Haverhill Golf Club ladies and juniors played their annual match over ten holes as four ball better ball format.
All the matches were close and the result could have gone either way, however the juniors managed to claim an impressive 4½-1½ victory.
Following the match both teams had afternoon tea and prize-giving. Junior captain Liam Merritt thanked the lady captain, Doreen Darbey, and the ladies section for organising the event which was enjoyed by everyone taking part.
The juniors contested the Autumn Shield on Thursday, November 1. In all, 14 competitors took part, 13 playing in a medal format and one playing stableford format.
The overall winner with a magnificent round of 73-10-63 was Daniel Bentley, cutting his handicap by two shots to eight in the process.
In second place on countback was Ollie Stevenson with 77-12-65, reducing his handicap by a shot to 11. In third place was Lewis Whiting with the lowest gross score 70-5-65, reducing his handicap by a shot to four.
James Iron, playing the stableford competition, also had an excellent score of 43pts, cutting his handicap by three shots to 27.
Haverhill ladies hosted a match against the Gog Magog Golf Club on Friday, November 2. Lady captain Doreen Darbey reported a successful day for Haverhill, winning overall by 3-1.
