Jubilee Walk Update

By St Edmundsbury Borough Council on Tuesday, 7th August 2007.

Work on the £460,000 project to enhance Haverhill's Jubilee Walk is due to finish over the next few weeks.

The improvement project has been designed to give an important entrance into Haverhill a special character and identity.

Consistent bad weather and the complexity of keeping the area open for access have caused us problems during the works, and some of the paving work will be re-laid over the coming weeks as a result. The area will also be ‘spring cleaned’ and the new granite seat delivered and installed. The sculpture of Owen the ginger cat will then be put in place.

People will be able to access the shops at all times during these final works. However, parts of Jubilee Walk will need to close for one day so the finishing touches can be carried out. Weather permitting, the closure is planned for Sunday 12 August.

Representatives from St Edmundsbury will be in Haverhill on Friday and Saturday to hand out information and answer questions. Someone will also be on site during the next week (from 13 August onwards) to help with additional queries.

Cllr Nigel Aitkens, portfolio holder with responsibility for Haverhill, said:

“Jubilee Walk is an important gateway into Haverhill and these improvements will give it a distinct character and identity which will help mark the town apart from its neighbours. We want the finished work to be of the highest standard and something of which the people of Haverhill can be proud.”
