Joy for group over £5,000 cash boost

By Jo Deeks on Thursday, 26th August 1999.

THE LAMPH Playgroup is celebrating a £5,000 boost from the Children in Need appeal to help set up a toy library for children with special needs.
LAMPH is the Haverhill-based group for children and adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Its playgroup caters for children with or without special needs and hopes to start operating the toy library in the next few weeks, with help from members of the Opportunity Group and the Haverhill Family Centre.
A meeting will take place at the LAMPH Centre in Colne Valley Road today at 7pm and any parents of children with special needs interested in joining are welcome along.
Organiser Elaine Hatfield said they were thrilled with the cash as some specialised toys could cost as much as £350 each.
"I could not believe it. We are doing really well at LAMPH at the moment, all the groups are going well and this was great news for us," Mrs Hatfield said.
The playgroup got an earlier boost at the end of the last term when a group of mothers whose children were leaving, presented a plaque and £200 for toys.
The group has a few places for children aged two-and-a-half years upwards and anyone interested should contact Mrs Hatfield on (01440) 763343.
For information on the toy library, contact Mrs Hatfield or Pat Frendo on (01440) 714444.
