Jail threat for sex attack man
Thursday, 2nd November 2000.
A 13-YEAR-OLD girl became pregnant and had an abortion after a 20-year-old man had sex with her, a jury was told.
Dean Marsh, now 21, of Haverhill Road, Steeple Bumpstead, was cleared of raping the girl.
He was convicted of an alternative charge of indecent assault, on the basis he had sex with her. He had denied both charges.
Anthony Abell, prosecuting, told Chelmsford Crown Court the incident happened during a weekend last summer. The girl and her 16-year-old friend spent some time in a park at Steeple Bumpstead where they met Marsh and a 17-year-old youth.
The girls and the youth were invited by Marsh to stay at his house that night. The 13-year-old said she wanted to go to sleep and went upstairs to Marsh's bedroom where there were two bunk beds.
The girl climbed into the top bunk and Marsh followed her into the room and said he was going to sleep next to her. He then raped her, it was claimed.
In evidence, Marsh admitted sharing the top bunk of his bed with the girl but denied raping her.
Judge Haworth will sentence Marsh when he sits at Cambridge Crown Court on November 17.
Remanding Marsh in custody for pre-sentence reports he told him: "I make it clear that on the face of it this is a serious offence which merits an immediate custodial sentence."
