Jack breaks three hours in London triathlon

Monday, 29th July 2013.

Haverhill triathlete Jack Tappin competed in one of the world's most popular triathlons when he raced in London at the weekend.

Tappin, 26, was in the final heat of the event held at the ExCeL Centre in the capital and saw more than 11,000 people take part over the two days.

The Olympic distance event that Tappin took part in comprised of a 1.5km/1mile swim, a 40km/26mile cyle and finally a 10km/6mile run.

The Haverhill Running Club member completed the Thames swim in 45min 9sec, the cycle in 1hr 5min 55sec and the run in 49min 34sec. He thus completed the route in 2hr 53min 4sec.

"It was a nice race and great to see the iconic skyline as I went along, but I had a nightmare getting there and nearly missed it!", said Tappin.

"There was great crowd support throughout and it felt like a professional race, cycling on closed roads then running through the masses.

"I knew I'd had a slow swim but then was having a string cycle. I didn't think I'd be able to set a sub 3hr time so really pushed myself in the run and managed it achieve it.

Next up for Tappin is his penultimate triathlon of 2013, the Cotswold Classic on August 11. The half-Ironman distance event comprises if a 1.9km/1.2mile swim, a 90km/56mile cycle and a half marathon - a 20km/13.1mile run
