It's make or break for Jones' boys
Thursday, 22nd August 2002.
HAVERHILL'S promotion push reaches crunch time with two games this weekend.
Skipper Steve Jones described it as a "make-or-break" weekend for his team, who take on title-rivals Boxted on Saturday and clash with Copford on Monday in Division Three.
Two wins would maintain their drive towards the summit of the division.
"It would set up the last week of the season very nicely," said Jones, "but really we do hope that Harwich lose on Saturday."
Second-placed Harwich, who lost by two wickets to Brightlingsea last Saturday, are due to entertain Copford in this week's round of matches.
Jones will be without in-form batsman Neil Winter as third-placed Haverhill meet Boxted, who are one place below them in the table.
Winter, who made a half-century last weekend, has ruled himself out of the game.
"I am undecided at the moment on who I am going to bring in for Saturday's game," Jones said.
Danny Wilkins is likely to keep wicket on Saturday and Steve Taylor, a middle-order batsman, is back in the reckoning after missing the eight-wicket win at Halstead.
Winter will be available on Monday for the match with Copford, who lie in mid-table.
Jones said he had a very strong side available for the Bank Holiday match. "It's probably one of the strongest sides all year," he said.
Lakenheath, struggling in Division Two, take on promotion-hunting Coggeshall at Eriswell Road.
Bowler Keith Starr is still on holiday and is the only absentee for the hosts -- Danny Reynolds will keep his place in the attack.
Lakenheath spokesman Paul Pallant admitted they would be in for a tough test against the division's second-placed side.
"There's still a lot of things to be resolved," said Pallant, referring to the club's berth in the bottom three.
Mildenhall II travel to Elmstead Grasshoppers. Worlington are without a match -- they were due to be playing Felixstowe, who have withdrawn from the league.
Division Six outfit Mildenhall III are at Witham II and Division One champions Exning host bottom-placed Braintree.
