Haverhill is preparing for a major fundraising event as Haverhill Cricket Club takes on the might of the international star players of Lashings World XI – the world’s greatest cricket club side.

This very different kind of fundraising Cricket Match is due to take place on 23rd August 2007 at The Manor Road Ground, Haverhill.

Haverhill Cricket Club's players, who come from Haverhill and the surrounding area, are going to put themselves on the line to face the biggest sporting challenge of their lives. The club are taking on the renowned Lashings World XI team to help raise funds for new net facilities for the clubs youth coaching programme.

Lashings World XI‘s line up reads like the 'Who’s Who' of world cricket, with legends such as Richie Richardson (WI), Aravinda De Silva (SRI L), Alvin Kallicharran (WI), Gordon Greenidge (WI) and Phil Defreitas (ENG), alongside current stars Chris Cairns (NZ), Tatenda Taibu (ZIM) and 2005 England’s Ashes winning Captain, Clare Connor. Although this may seem an impossible challenge, the game promises a day of fun for all involved and the local side are optimistic!

Jon Watkins, player and current Head Groundman said “This will be a great occasion, not only for the club and the players, but also for the spectators who are lucky enough to get to see the match.”

The aim of the day, as well as offering the opportunity to enjoy quality cricket, is to raise money to provide better coaching facilities for the Club's Youth Cricket Academy. Although the Youth Academy was only started two years ago, it has already attracted 80 players under the age of 16 and the Club expects this number to increase to 120 during the coming season!

The event will be strictly all ticket and tickets will be available from the Town Hall from the 1st June. Tickets will cost £10 for adults, £5 for under 16’s and family tickets will be available at a discounted price of £20.
