Haverhill Golf Club hosted the inaugural Eastern Region Senior Ladies Championship (for over 50s) on Tuesday, July 12.

A competitive field of 42 ladies entered the tournament, eight of whom played off single figure handicaps, and represented clubs from across counties in the East Region, including Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

The course, as usual, was set up to a very high standard by head greenkeeper Glenn Norris and his team. The greens were very fast, which challenged the field and this was reflected in the competition scratch score being raised to 75.

Afterwards, Haverhill’s lady captain, Marian Mercer, thanked all the ladies for taking part and hoped they enjoyed the day’s competition and hospitality at Haverhill.

Marian then went onto thank the members from Haverhill, especially lady vice-captain Doreen Darbey, Gill Richardson, Kathy Bowman, Syd Gould and Mick Turner for assisting on the day.

Event organiser and EWGA Representative, Anne Archer from Ipswich Golf Club and Judi Walker from Stowmarket Golf Club, made the prize presentation and announced the results as follows:
Best Gross & Champion: Rosemary Farrow - St. Neots - 87 gross;
Overall Net: Pat Kennedy - Haverhill - 89-17-72;
Over 50 - Best Net: Sue Anderson - Crondon Park - 92-15-77;
Runner-up: Jan Helm - Crondon Park - 97-19-78;
Over 60 - Best Net: Ann Graves - Woodbridge - 89-12-77;
Runner-up: Geraldine Wheatley - Haverhill - 99-22-77;
Over 70 - Best Net: Nina Nielsen - Woodbridge - 100-16-84.
