Hotel And Pub Plan Brings Jobs Boost
By Jo Deeks on Thursday, 15th September 2005.
Plenty of new jobs are on the way for the Haverhill area now that planning permission has been granted for a new hotel, restaurant and pub.
Carisbrooke, developers of the Haverhill Business Park, was celebrating this week after receiving planning consent for a Days Inn Hotel and a Whitbread Brewers Fayre restaurant and pub. Building work on the projects is due to start shortly.
The firm has signed a franchise agreement with the Days Inn chain for an 80 - bed hotel on the site. The hotel will be the largest in Haverhill and will stand alongside the Brewers Fayre, a restaurant and pub with the capacity to seat 180 people. It is expected to open at the same time as the hotel next summer.
Paul Donno, chairman of Haverhill Chamber of Commerce said the development was very good news for the town.
"I think it is very positive for the town and it is certainly going to create more jobs as well as business for local companies to supply products and services. There is nowhere at the moment you can get into with a large number of people and not that many places to go for a lunchtime meal that is quick. I think it is a great move." Mr Donno said.
Nic Rumsey, Carisbrooke's director, said: "These two businesses will dramatically improve the facilities for those living and working in the town and a significant number of jobs are going to be created."
Paula Reed, of Whitbread, said: "We are delighted to be opening a Brewers Fayre in Haverhill. We are confident that the restaurant will be hugely successful due to the existing shortage of modern quality leisure outlets in the area."
The Haverhill Business Park already houses several new factories, including a new home for Percy Dalton's Peanut factory.
