Heavy snowfall as big freeze grips town
Monday, 20th December 2010.
Police in Haverhill have encouraged people to make sure any elderly or vulnerable neigbours are alright during the current cold weather.
After five inches of snow fell on Saturday afternoon, and last night saw temperatures plummet to -12C, the town has been in the grip of one of its biggest freezes of recent years.
But all town roads have remained negotiable with care by drivers, and police have not reported an increase in road traffic accidents.
Drivers have generally been behaving sensibly and considerately, Haverhill police chief, Insp Chris Galley said today.
He also urged anyone going out to consider leaving lights on, or some evidence of people being in, to deter would-be Christmas present thieves.
