Haverthill Angling Club news
By Rupert Beynon on Monday, 9th May 2011.
With one of the best springs I can remember, it's time to get out and target those big brown things that live in your local puddles!... well that's what some anglers refer to when speaking about the carp.
This species of fish only really starts to come alive when we have had a sustained period of temperatures over ten degrees so I was delighted to catch a 10lb common carp within half an hour at my latest trip to Clare Long Pond.
Jason Jeggo said he could not get his tackle out of the garage - which I believe was an excuse to use mine - but using a method feeder close in to the island on peg one produced fish after fish until the sun became too hot and the fish disappeared.
For those of you who have not yet bought your rod licence I must remind you you need to have one by law to fish, even at private waters, and Haverhill Angling Club cards can now be purchased at Petco which is located where the old tackle shop was, near to Sturmer bridge.
The latest round in the Van der Enyde super cup took place on Magpie Lake at Pidley where Haverhill were beaten into third place with 18 points, Newmarket with 17 and the winners, who go through to the semi-finals, were Hoskins Haulers with 13 points.
Congratulations though need to go to Haverhill rod Dave Rees who won the match overall with 49lb.
Another Haverhill rod Danny Porter has been entering the latest Fish-o-mania matches and he was lucky to get a ticket for the next qualifier which is this week at Monks Lakes in Kent - good luck Danny.
The next club match will take place at Cockfield Lakes this Sunday, draw at 8am.
