Haverhill Vision 2031 inquiry will be held in the town
Wednesday, 11th December 2013.
A Government planning inspector will come to Haverhill to hold his inquiry into the Vision 2031 document which will guide development of the town over the next 20 years.
St Edmundsbury’s planners put the document together and Haverhill Town Councillors, rather belatedly, robustly contested a lot of it, but their comments were ignored.
Town clerk Will Austin will now be putting their concerns direct to the Inspector at the hearing, which is in public.
The schedule may change but at present February 4, 5 and 6 will see the town’s future thrashed out in public, first at Days Inn on the Tuesday and then at the Leisure Centre on the Wednesday and Thursday.
The inspector appointed, Mr Roger Clews, has already issued the list of questions which he will be addressing, some from interested parties including residents and businesses, and some he has set himself.
You can read them all on St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s website, and they include many old favourites such as the railway link, pedestrianisation etc.
The Inspector is carrying out an inquiry into the whole of the Vision 2031 documents, before and after the Haverhill days he will be holding days of evidence on Bury St Edmunds issues and rural issues at the Apex in Bury.
Cllr Terry Clements, St Edmundsbury's portfolio holder for planning said: “Once adopted, Vision 2031 will provide the structure for sustainable, acceptable growth in the borough and protect it from undesirable growth that we would otherwise not have grounds to refuse.
"The public consultation has revealed the deep allegiance of our residents to all that is good in the borough. This plan seeks to protect that by ensuring that inevitable future growth is desirable and appropriate.”
