Haverhill targeted for brain injury charity's hub service

Thursday, 29th May 2014.

Brain injury charity Headway Suffolk is excited to announce the launch of its first satellite hub service on June 11 at the newly refurbished Burton Centre in Haverhill.

Headway Suffolk has neuro hubs in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich, and has identified a need for an outreach resource in Haverhill for individuals with an acquired brain injury or neurological condition.

The Burton Centre has recently undergone a £350,000 refurbishment by St Nicholas Hospice Care.

Headway Suffolk’s Bury hub care manager Sue Tate said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity of a joint working partnership with St Nicholas Hospice Care.

“Upon feedback with our clients, we identified a great need for a service in Haverhill. We have had clients either stopped coming to Bury or cannot come because of the cost and time of travelling and the fatigue of the journey, which is a common effect from a brain injury.

“This will be a very convenient service for those living in Haverhill who need the support of Headway. We feel satellite hubs are the way forward for Headway Suffolk. Anyone who wants to refer to any of our services can also come in and discuss their needs in person.”

The hub will be open every Wednesday from 9.30-12.30 but it is planned to expand to all day in the autumn.

Set in a supportive social environment, clients will be encouraged to develop skills and improve cognitive abilities through activities such as pottery, IT and cognitive games.

For more information, contact Sue Tate on 01284 702535 or email: suetate@headwaysuffolk.org.uk.
