Haverhill struggle
By Jo Deeks on Thursday, 29th June 2000.
WITHIN days of being spoilt for choice, Haverhill cricket team found themselves turning out with 10 men at pace-setting Coggeshall in Division Four of the Jaygate Two Counties League.
"We had a couple of players, Paul Abbott and Bill Moran, pull out on Friday night and were suddenly short", said skipper Dan Wilkins.
"Our bowling and fielding were superb and after we got them out for 192 I thought we'd win, with the batsmen we've got."
Steve Jones and occasional bowler Ross Nicholson, who held on to a great caught and bowled, grabbed five wickets apiece, but Haverhill's batsmen failed to match their efforts.
Jones was left unbeaten on 36 as his side fell 83 runs short.
