By Martin Chapman on Saturday, 12th June 2004.
Michael Robinson from Haverhill has been awarded the OBE in the Queens Birthday Honours, it was revealed today.
Currently a Support Sector Officer for the Western Area with Sufolk’s Special Constabulary he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to the Police.
Talking about the award Mr Robinson said: “I am absolutely gobsmacked to have been awarded this prestigious award. Never in my Police Career did I ever imagine that I would finish my career being presented with anything like this.”
Michaels career with the Special constabulary has spanned 40 years, and at times hasn’t always been the easiest roles to balance alongside a daily job. He recalls how: “Back in the 1980’s [my wife] had to put up with me getting called out at all hours to a large number of escapes from Highpoint Prison when it first opened.
He went on to say how proud he was to receive the award, which he dedicated to his wife, Barbara, and son David as well as to all past and serving specials. Who he says “have to be so highly trained to keep-up with modern day policing.”
