Haverhill Leisure Centre Re-opens
Thursday, 2nd July 2009.
The eagerly awaited re-opening of Haverhill Leisure Centre following its multi-million pound refurbishment will begin on Saturday 4 July, with a full programme of activities for everyone to enjoy.
Leisure Centre owners, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, have invested £5.2m in a complete upgrade that has transformed the 37 year old building and the customer experience. As well as a complete technical overhaul, the refit has provided improved facilities, new state of the art equipment and high quality finishes.
The first facilities to open will be the fitness facilities, sports hall, squash courts, a new multi-purpose room, two of the three studios and a new combat and martial arts area. The swimming pool is filled and will open as soon as the water comes up to temperature. Please check the Leisure Centre website (www.acleisure.com) or call 01440 702548.
From Saturday 4 July those under 16 and over 65 years can register for free swimming by visiting the dedicated desk in reception. The registration form can be downloaded from the website but needs to be presented at the reception desk. Those aged 13 to 16 years and 60 to 65 years need to bring proof of identity including their date of birth. There is a £2 administration charge for the free-swim card.
A completely new children’s experience will open two weeks later on 18 July, with the £650,000 Kids City play area, new cafeteria, party rooms and crèche. The final stage, in mid August, sees the opening of a new health suite and spinning studio.
Warren Smyth, Chief Executive of Abbeycroft Leisure, operators of the centre, said,
“Haverhill residents are going to be delighted with their new Leisure Centre. As well as the technical side of things, we have concentrated on all the little things that make a great customer experience. Haverhill now has a really impressive community asset and the staff are looking forward to welcoming users.”
St Edmundsbury Borough Council Cabinet member for Culture and Sport, Cllr Lynsey Alexander said,
“Haverhill can be proud of this facility and of the newly completed leisure quarter. The Haverhill master plan highlighted how important the Leisure Centre is to the life of the town. As well as being a great facility for residents, the users it attracts from outlying areas will notice what a pleasant buzz there is about the place, and see all the good reasons to make it their local shopping and entertainment base. “
The programme of activities offered by the Leisure Centre has been refreshed and expanded to offer opportunities for all ages and abilities
