Haverhill Leisure Centre - Open Day
Monday, 28th January 2008.
Multi-million pound plans for the refurbishment and improvement project at Haverhill Leisure Centre will be unveiled during a special open day taking place on Monday 11 February.
Representatives from St Edmundsbury Borough Council (which owns the building and will fund the work) and Abbeycroft Leisure (which operates the centre) will meet residents, Leisure Centre customers and school teachers to explain the plans.
An hour-long session to brief the media will take place between 2pm and 3pm and artists’ impressions of the finished building will be available. Cllr Lynsey Alexander, St Edmundsbury’s portfolio holder for Culture and Sport, and Warren Smyth, Chief Executive of Abbeycroft Leisure, will also be on hand to discuss the plans. Residents and Leisure Centre users are welcome to drop in and look at the proposals between 5pm and 8.30pm.
Work on the £5 million improvement and modernisation project will take around 12 months and will begin at the end of June. As part of the project, the wet and dry changing rooms will be refurbished, the fitness studio extended and a new reception area, swimming pool viewing area and dance room developed.
Temporary facilities and activities will be provided by Abbeycroft Leisure during the project.
