Haverhill is Kids City

Tuesday, 21st July 2009.

A £650,000 new children’s play area will be opened at 10am on Saturday 25 July, at Haverhill Leisure Centre. Designed for under fives and for five to twelve year olds, it is packed full of equipment including a two storey tower complete with speed slide for older children, a ball pool for smaller people and a café and lounge area for accompanying adults.

The new facility is part of the £5.2m refurbishment of the Leisure Centre, funded by St Edmundsbury Borough Council and will give families a children’s activities destination on their doorstep.

Cllr Lynsey Alexander, St Edmundsbury Borough Council Cabinet member for Culture and Sport said,
“Lots of young families live in the area and there was a clear demand for a great children’s play facility. The council is committed to providing opportunities for people to be active and this scheme is part of the overall re-launch of Haverhill’s Leisure Centre. In future people will be travelling into Haverhill to enjoy the facilities, rather than local people having to travel out.”

Warren Smyth, Chief Executive of Abbeycroft Leisure, who manage Haverhill Leisure Centre said,
“A lot of thought has gone into all aspects of the Kids City experience. There is a café and a lounge area for adults who have brought their children along, as well as a crèche. The staff are all early years and child development trained. The colourful equipment offers a balance of quiet, thoughtful play, (for example the story area and the educational pieces) and exciting physical challenge (lights, lasers, and interactive pieces). So every child can enjoy every visit.”

Kids City costs £3.50 per child and is open 10 am to 6 pm seven days a week.
