Haverhill councillor to be next St Edmundsbury mayor

A Haverhill councillor has been nominated as Mayor of St Edmundsbury for the first time for 14 years.
Cllr Tim Marks’ nomination by the mayoral advisory committee was announced at the meeting of St Edmundsbury Borough Council last week.
Cllr Marks will take up his appointment following formal election at the mayor-making ceremony at the next meeting of the borough council on May 17.
Cllr Marks was a Haverhill Town Councillor from 2003-2007 and was Haverhill town mayor in 2004/5 and 2005/6.
He has been a borough councillor for Haverhill North Ward since 2007 and also a Suffolk county councillor since 2005.
Tim is delighted that the next Mayor of St Edmundsbury has been selected from Haverhill which reflects the importance of Haverhill as a progressive and fast growing town in the borough.
Tim has lived in Haverhill for 12 years with his wife Margaret, a former town councillor and a founder member of Haverhill community first responders and an active member of St John Ambulance.
Tim is now retired, having spent all of his working life in agricultural-related business.
After graduating from London University in 1958 he went on to obtain postgraduate diplomas at Cambridge University and Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture in Trinidad before becoming a colonial officer in Sierra Leone.
After two tours of duty he returned to the UK where he worked in the crop protection industry developing and introducing new products.
