Haverhill Angling Club news
By Rupert Beynon on Monday, 28th May 2012.
Last Sunday's open match at Haverhill Flood Park was fished in the beautiful weather we are having at the moment.
The only problem was the fish are starting to spawn so many were not interested in the baits being offered on the day.
Danny Porter ran out of ground bait with an hour to go but still managed to take first place with 13lb 12oz using a whip close in on the Sainsburys bank.
Second was Glen Carter, with only an ounce behind Danny, fishing the car park end on the pole, and third was Nigel Loker with 9lb 3oz. The next open will be held on Sunday, June 24.
The Thursday night summer series has started at Wilf Gardner's lakes in Clare and, between 13 anglers who took part, over 170lb of carp was taken in the three-hour match.
Glen Massie destroyed the field in peg six on Long Pond catching seven carp and losing just as many, fishing the method feeder, weighing in with 39lb 12oz with a 13lb carp making up his total.
Second was Dave Spencer with 16lb 2oz using the pole in peg seven and third was Richard Massie also on the pole with 15lb 7oz. The next one will take place at Cable Pond on Thursday, May 31. Places are limited but if you are interested call Dave Spencer on 01440 702560.
The next club match will also be held on Cable Pond on Sunday, June 10, draw 9am, fishing 10-4pm. More information about Haverhill Angling Club can be found at www.haverhillanglingclub.net
