Haverhill Angling Club news
By Ruper Beynon on Monday, 19th July 2010.
I have recently returned from two weeks at Whiteacres in Cornwall. This was voted the top angling resort in Britain, with my best match result coming in the weekly rover match which contains over 130 anglers.
I was lucky to draw a peg on the famous high bank on Pollawyn lake and finished a respectable fourth with 97lb 12oz, using pellet on a straight bomb.
While I have been off there have been several matches, the first being a match held at Home Farm fisheries, Little Walden, where Jason Jeggo bagged up, taking first place with 135lb using floating dog biscuit.
Second was Dave Penycook with 92lb and third Cyril Mayes with 62lb.
Then an open match held at the flood park the next day was won by Ian Garner with 23lb 11oz, second Nick Pluck with 22lb 6oz and third Sandy Dickson with 20lb 3oz.
On July 15, two anglers represented the club at the inter-prison pairs match held at Cross Drove fishery and did very well indeed, winning the match against some very well-known anglers - first were Dave Spencer and Pete Griggs with an impressive 96lb.
And finally, a club match took place on the Flood Park last Sunday with all three top anglers using the pole and cage feeders catching mostly skimmer bream for most of the day.
First was Dave Reece 25lb 7oz, second Ian Garner with 22lb 3oz and third Danny Porter with 18lb 7oz. The next match will be at Long Pond, Clare, on Sunday, August 1, draw at 8am.
