Haverhill Angling Club news

By Rupert Beynon on Monday, 24th May 2010.

Many fisheries are now banning throwing unused bait into your swim at the end of the match.

One of England's top fisheries at Whiteacres in Cornwall have issued a warning to anglers, as what is starting to happen is that the fish are feeding at night.

Clint Elliot the fisheries manager claims up to 100 gallons are chucked in after major contests. Stopping this has reduced algae and catches have increased.

I will let you know when I go there for two weeks at the start of July how it is going.

The latest match was at the Suffolk Water Parks match lake three, which is a silver fish venue.

The day started off very warm and by the end of the day the temperatures were as high as 28 degrees.

Pasty fishermen became lobsters by the end of the day and this also had an effect on the fish with low weights showing all around the lake as the fish basked in the glorious sunshine.

The eventual winner was Jason Jeggo recording his first win of the season and I am sure not the last, fishing a pole at 13 metres catching 10lb 15oz using red maggot.

Second was Neil Foster, also on the pole but fishing eight metres using maggot, with 10lb 7oz, and third was Nick Pluck fishing corn at 16 metres in the rushes for 8lb 5oz.

At the end of the match Phil Kingdom left his internal car light on so in the blistering heat we had to bump start his car. With Mr Jeggo, one of our lightest members, in the front seat, we managed to get it going.

The next match is on Sunday, June 6, at Cockfield Lakes.
